Music Ensemble (MUEN)

MUEN M100-M106 Major Ensemble 1 cr.

Loyola Symphony Orchestra, Loyola Chamber Orchestra, University Band, University Chorale, University Chorus, Jazz Band I, Jazz Workshop Band, Jazz Training Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble. These courses involve regular rehearsals and performances in groups of various sizes and constitutions. Creditable as needed at any level of undergraduate study. Open to non-music students by audition only.

MUEN M200-202 Minor Ensemble 1 cr.

Training Orchestra, Opera Workshop, and Vocal Chamber Ensemble. These courses involve regular rehearsals and performances in groups of various sizes and constitutions. Creditable as needed at any level of undergraduate study. Open to non-music students by audition only.

MUEN M210 Contemporary Ensemble 1 cr.

This course is oriented toward ensemble performance in rock, pop, acoustic roots and jazz genres. Original and cover songs will be studied, arranged and performed in class with supervision of the instructor. Live performances and studio recordings are required.

MUEN M215 Electro-Acoustic Ensemble 1 cr.

The objective of this course is to give the student a performing knowledge of electro-acoustic music. The ensemble will perform “classical” electro-acoustic works, contemporary compositions, including student works and improvisatory electro-acoustic music.

MUEN M300-312 Chamber Ensemble 1 cr.

String Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Guitar Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Trombone Ensemble, and Piano Chamber Ensemble. These courses involve regular rehearsals and performances in groups of various sizes and constitutions. Creditable as needed at any level of undergraduate study. Open to non-music students by audition only.

MUEN M304 Afro Cuban Ensemble 1 cr.

The Afro Cuban Ensemble jazz combo will give students the opportunity to explore performance practices and repertoire specifically needed when learning Afro Cuban musical styles. Open to non-music students by audition only, with preference given to Percussionists and Jazz Studies majors.

MUEN M400 Accompanying Creditable as needed

This course will provide the student with the opportunity to observe a professional accompanist at work in a close, advisory environment. The student will develop an understanding of some of the vocabulary, techniques, and concerns associated with accompanying the voice and a variety of instruments.
